Back in 1830 el Galo or le Piere already existed and the old place called Confin - the extreme limit between the communes of Verona and Roverè - is said to host the smugglers.
Smugglers that, until 1918, brought salt or tobacco to Austria and came back with oil for lamps. Austria was very close by, just after Giazza. In those dark nights they enjoyed themselves telling violent stories of fights with Financiers for clothes.
Before the First World War many carriages used to go along this way; the coachman stopped at le Piere and then at Confin to make the horses rest and to give passengers a break for refreshment. After Confin the way became quite winding and there was no life until the other road called "Pissarota".
